Physiological effects

  • Lactoferrin is a glycoprotein, meaning that it has a sugar moiety in addition to the protein.It belongs to the group of transferrins and binds to the free iron in the body. Lactoferrin is not sensitive to gastrointestinal enzymes or acidity. Lactoferrin is a natural ingredient in milk and is isolated from milk by a special separation technology.
  • Lactoferrin binds iron to itself already in the gut. It has its own receptor in the gut through which it is absorbed. When absorbed, it takes iron with it. Lactoferrin regulates intracellular iron balance by preventing the accumulation of excess iron in cells. When lactoferrin binds iron, less free iron is found in the bloodstream, which is desirable as free iron acts as an free oxygen radical harmful to the body. Lactoferrin thus acts as an antioxidant and helps iron to be properly distributed in the body.
  • Lactoferrin strengthens the body’s innate defense mechanisms. It nourishes the skin from the inside and is therefore very well suited for problem skin to promote skin well-being. Lactoferrin is a nutritional support for both adolescent and adult pimples and other skin impurities, redness and oiliness of the skin.
  • Vitamin C, or ascorbic acid, is an essential water-soluble vitamin that acts as a key antioxidant in the body, protecting cells from harmful oxidation by free radicals.
