Additional information

  • Vitamin E is an important fat-soluble vitamin that contributes to the protection of cells from oxidative stress.
  • Vitamin E occurs naturally in several different forms. The vitamin E in Vitatabs® E 50 mg tablets is natural alpha-tocopherol. Since alpha-tocopherol has the highest biological vitamin E activity, it is commonly used as the reference form for vitamin E activity, and the vitamin E content of foods is expressed based on it – 1 mg of alpha-tocopherol equals 1 alpha-tocopherol equivalent.
  • The vitamin E group also includes beta-, gamma- and delta-tocopherols as well as four tocotrienols, but their alpha-tocopherol activity is lower than that of alpha-tocopherol.
  • In the food industry, tocopherols are used as antioxidants to prevent the oxidation and spoilage of fats.
  • The best dietary sources of fat-soluble vitamin E include vegetable oils (rapeseed/canola, olive and sunflower oils), nuts (almonds, hazelnuts), seeds (sunflower seeds), whole grains, wheat germ, as well as green leafy vegetables, avocado, apricot and egg yolk.
